Setting up OpenAI
Use OpenAI's Whisper for transcription and GPT models for summaries
Step 1: Create an OpenAI Account

Visit platform.openai.com
- 2.
Sign up or log in to your account
Step 2: Generate Your API Key
- 1.
Navigate to API Keys
- 2.
Click "Create new secret key"
- 3.
Name your key (e.g., "OpenRecorder")
- 4.
Copy the key immediately (you won't see it again!)
Step 3: Add Credits to Your Account
- 1.
Go to Billing
- 2.
Add a payment method
- 3.
Add credits (start with $10-20)
Step 4: Add to OpenRecorder.ai
- 1.
Log in to OpenRecorder.ai
- 2.
Go to Settings → AI Providers
- 3.
Enable OpenAI and paste your API key
- 4.
Select your preferred model (GPT-4o-mini is cost-effective)
Pricing Information
- • Whisper API: ~$0.006 per minute of audio
- • GPT-4o-mini: ~$0.00015 per 1K input tokens
- • Typical meeting (30 min): ~$0.20-0.30 total
